What is a Timing Belt?

It’s common to take a car’s performance for granted and forget that parts need regular maintenance to stay at peak performance. The engine compartment is one of those places. Housed in its own compartment, but part of the workings of the internal engine, is the timing belt.

The timing belt connects the crankshaft and the camshaft. The crankshaft supplies the power from the engine to other parts such as the clutch. The camshaft receives that power and uses it to operate the engine’s valves. If you hear a misfire, or popping from your engine as you drive, that could be a result of the two parts not working together correctly.

It is recommended to change your timing belt on a regular maintenance schedule depending on the manufacturer. It is a critical component to the operation of your vehicle.
