Honda and Mugen Shakes Things Up in the Hybrid Market

Honda's CR-Z hybrid is quite a history maker. It is the first ever production hybrid to feature a six-speed transmission. Built using Honda's IMA hybrid technology, the CR-Z hybrid is a breath of fresh air in a stuffy hybrid market that seems to lack performance. Makes no mistake about it though, the CR-Z hybrid changes all of that with its IMA Hybrid technology platform, featuring thee driving modes (Sport, ECON, and Normal). Honda sums it up best with their description of the CR-Z hybrid as being "responsible indulgence".1

Here at Inlands Honda we find the prospect of "responsible indulgence" to be an interesting one. Apparently, the people at the Big H do too, which is why they have turned to their racing arm, Mugen in order to take it one step further.

Honda and Mugen's latest creation, the Mugen CR-Z RR concept, was unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, overseas. The UK audience was eager to see what Honda and Mugen did to the CR-Z hybrid with their combined efforts, and anyone who is familiar with what the double-R suffix denotes knows that they did not disappoint.

For those of you who are not familiar with Mugen's RR title: it is the ultimate sign of sportiness in one of their vehicles. Still, that doesn't exactly explain what Mugen did to the CR-Z hybrid. First, they equipped it with a supercharged engine that managed by a specially crafted control unit. This imbued the vehicle with almost 200-hp. Mugen didn't stop there, though. Next, they made changes to the vehicle's exterior, including adding new front and rear bumpers, side skirts, rear wing and 18-inch rims, and various carbon fiber pieces of trim to compliment the orange colored body.

While there has been no official word of a production model of the Mugen CR-Z RR concept in the near future, we would love the chance to show one off on our lot at 124 Killian Commons Parkway Columbia, SC 29203. And, we will be sure to keep you updated on anything we hear about it in the future. This is one model that we won't soon forget.
