Those of you who check out the Midlands Honda blog enough are likely to remember our previous post about a new electric vehicle from our favorite Japanese automaker. The Honda Fit-based EV was very much in its early stages of development when the Big H showed it off at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, in Germany. Since then, Honda has continued to work on the EV, and now the latest iteration has been unveiled at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show.

We know, we know, those of you out there who want the style of the Fit and the cost of ownership of an EV are dying for details, and we have them! Honda is currently claiming that the Fit EV can travel 123 MPGe when sticking to the city streets, which is an amazing feat. Furthermore, that number is able to stay as high as 76 MPGe when cruising the highway. And the recharge time? Current estimations pinpoint it at around three hours when using a 240-volt charger.

Another big feature of the Honda Fit EV is that it will have three selectable drive modes: Normal, Sport, and Econ. These three selections will allow drivers to have the convenience of an EV and the performance of a conventional vehicle all in one at their choice.

As for when it will be released... Some are claiming that it could be seen at dealership lots, like ours at 124 Killian Commons Parkway Columbia, SC 29203, by mid 2012, while others are saying that we could be in for a bit longer of a wait. Regardless, when the vehicle is released it will only show up in California and Oregon at first. After all, it would only make sense for Honda to do a limited release with a full EV like this, though they are already hinting at a market expansion in 2013.
